I have another post that isn’t baseball/ballpark related, but one of my favorite places to take a trip to. When I was a kid, I went to Hayward many times. When the pandemic hit in 2020, it was my first time going back since I was 16 years old. I ended up going back another 3 times in 2020. My parents spend a lot of time out there, and it was the perfect place to go in 2029 with everything going on. I usually go fishing, but we didn’t plan to this time around. That ended up being the right choice, especially since it was still cold outside. I had bad luck the past couple years, and haven’t felt very encouraged to get back out on the lake again. However, there were plenty of other things to do out there.
One of the biggest reasons Hayward was a great place to go to again was because it’s very dog friendly. For me, it’s about a 6 hour drive. It’s a little long for a long weekend, but not bad. We started our drive as soon as I got home from work Friday night. There are a ton of small towns to drive through, and a lot of deer/wildlife. I always choose to drive up at night though, so I can be there ready to go the next day. Otherwise, you’re tired the whole day after getting there. The first day, we rested, and went into town. I should’ve taken a picture of the town, but forgot to do that. There’s a candy store that’s been there since 1963, T-shirt stores, a store with pet supplies/treats, bars, restaurants, ice cream stores, and other local businesses.
After visiting town, we went to spend time with family, and went for a ride into some other wildlife areas. Northern Wisconsin is a great place to visit if you enjoy the outdoors. There are tons of ATV trails, and places to hunt and fish. We chose this area because our family used to have a cabin there. Sunday ended up being a cold and rainy day, so we didn’t do much outside. We visited the Fresh Water Fishing Hall Of Fame, which had a lot of record fish. I always saw the big iconic fish at the museum that I’ll include a picture of, but never visited the museum. It’s well worth the visit if you enjoy fishing, and seeing the history of fishing. They had tons of pictures of people in the area catching record fish.
Another thing Hayward is known for, are the Lumberjack World Championships. We were able to see the first lumberjack show in Hayward, in almost 2 years. I couldn’t remember the details of the shows, so it made it more entertaining. They took a cold plunge on one of the courses into the lake. Besides that, we took it easy on Sunday, and relaxed. It’s a great place to relax with the peaceful outdoors. Monday, we drove back early, and I made it for part of a baseball game at home for bark in the park. I’ll be sharing another post about that soon! Here are some of the pictures from last weekend.
