It’s been a while since my last post, and I’ve been spending the baseball off season going to hockey games. I used to go to a few Dallas Stars games every season when I was in Dallas, and I really enjoy the sport. This year, a new team has been playing in their inaugural season, the Iowa Heartlanders.
I’ve always enjoyed hockey, and I really like to watch the higher levels of the sport. The Heartlanders play in the ECHL, and are affiliated with the Minnesota Wild. Minor League hockey is a little different than baseball, and I still have a lot to learn. Watching this team and fanbase grow has been a great experience, and I’m excited to see how the fanbase develops over the years. With the team being in the same area as The University Of Iowa, I have always been curious about how a professional sports team would do in the area. The past few games I’ve attended, there have been over 2,500 fans at the Xtream Arena, which opened in 2020.
After the NHL taxi squads were done being used, the Heartlanders made a few roster moves, and brought in the pieces they needed to help this team win. They’re currently on their first 6 game win streak ever. The most recent game I attended, the team was playing extremely well, and it’s been fun to watch! I’m not sure how trades/roster moves work in affiliated hockey, but whoever made the trades knew exactly what this team needed. I’m planning on sharing more hockey blog posts next season also, and might even try to travel a little when it’s not snowing. I’m also planning to have a post from the Rockford Icehogs games I attended, along with the Iowa Hawkeyes Vs Penn State wrestling meet.
Baseball season is almost here again, and I can’t wait! I’m planning on releasing a tentative schedule before each month. This will be a little easier to track, and see what to look forward to. As always, I’ll have some pictures and videos below.
